Do you know the old saying- “there's no "I" in team”? Everybody says it’s true but I just don’t get it. From my point of view, as a program manager a team is comprised of lots of “I's”. Explore the team dynamic and how to take advantage of them so increase team effectiveness as a project manager.

Truelove, M.A., Program Manager truelove@ccs.ua.eduBrenda is an alumnus of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Health Studies. Brenda serves on the Bama by Distance, Online Learning team in the College of Continuing Studies as a Program Manager.She manages the development of professional development training for participants to secure needed continuing education credits or industry recognized certifications that will enhance their careers. Prior to her recent appointment in Online Learning in December, 2019, from 2015-2019, Brenda served as a member of the Corporate Engagement Team where she regularly engaged with corporations and executives to connect resources from the university at large to business needs. She managed the business acumen portfolio including: the e-learning training platform for the BERTHAprogram, the Crimson Lean/Six Sigma certificate program, the Maintenance Management certificate program, the Professionally Speaking workshop, the Project Management certificate program, and e-learning in Supply Chain/Logistics and Supervision.In February, 2017, Brenda completed training as a Certified Coach in the Marshall Goldsmith Stakeholder Centered Coaching process. She will be using those skills in leadership coaching opportunities with business leaders across Alabama and the Atlanta, Georgia area. A life-long learner herself, in May, 2019, Brenda completed a second graduate certificate program at The University of Alabama in Consumer Conflict Management, Negotiation and Mediation. She is honing her skills to assist corporate clients to manage, resolve, negotiate, and mediate conflict and to develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills for living and earning.Brenda’s prior professional work experience includes 22 years in healthcare leadership and 11 years as site manager for a comprehensive Career Center operated by the State of Alabama which provides workforce development services to the citizens of West Alabama. Brenda also taught as an adjunct instructor for the College of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Alabama for 11 years.Brenda and her husband Rodney (retired IT Director Westervelt Company) have been married for 42 years and are the grateful parents of two grown children, Justin Truelove (Jordan), Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking at CentreState Bank in Birmingham, Alabama, and Carmen Truelove Snyder (Johnathan), Portfolio Implementation Associate for BlackRock Financial in Atlanta, Georgia. Most importantly, Brenda and Rodney are grandparents to John Preston Truelove, age five, and his little sister Julia Ryan, age six months.Brenda and Rodney are also active members at Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, where Rodney serves as a deacon and choir

Mr. Gary D. Amerson
Director, Center for Cyber Security
Mr. Gary D. Amerson became the first Director of the Center for Cyber Security at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) in March 2020.
Mr. Amerson brings with him a strong operational background. He retired from the United States Air Force (USAF) after 25 years working in communications and information technology, specializing in communications security in analog and digital formats. He was instrumental in designing and implementing new airborne secure communications networks and technology. He was part of the initial cadre in development of the communication suite on the USAF C-37A (Gulfstream V) aircraft. His last assignment was at Headquarters Air Mobility Command, serving in the Operational Support Aircraft/Executive Airlift Requirements Branch, responsible for the design and procurement of secure airborne communication systems for our nations leaders.
After the military, he worked for Booz Allen Hamilton as a cyber security specialist for eight years. He oversaw a team of cyber experts securing a network of over 32,000 users, 20,000 assets, on three continents. Some of his process improvements in securing user access were adopted Navy wide. Mr. Amerson transitioned to government civilian service as an Information Systems Security Manager for almost two years prior to coming to AUM. He served as the Naval Education and Training Command’s primary interface with Fleet Cyber Command’s Office of Compliance and Assessment during numerous Command Cyber Readiness Inspections across the Navy, all receiving passing to excellent grades.
Mr. Amerson taught graduate-level cyber security for ten years at Bellevue University. He has been a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) since 2010.
Mr. Amerson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Information Systems (Information Security concentration) and Masters of Science degree in Management Information Systems (Cyber Security concentration), from Bellevue University, Bellevue, Nebraska. He and his wife, Kayleen, have two daughters who are current college students at the University of Alabama and Auburn University.

Speaker: John Crilly
Mr. Crilly is a seasoned project professional obtaining his PMP over 16 years ago. Since then, he has enjoyed many challenges that include building a PMO, leading large multi-national projects, guiding project teams of over 200 members, and designing / implementing a new IT service. He currently uses his IT governance experience to lead global mergers and divestitures as a Director of Service Delivery at Atos (a global ITSM company).
Abstract: One thing that all of us can count on is that nothing stays the same. This presentation will focus on how successful companies navigate the unique challenges of bringing value to their customers while bringing order to the chaos caused by continuous change environments.
